Wow, kinders like to think! I know I said this in a previous post, but I'm really amazed at how quickly they get on board with more intensive learning. This isn't preschool anymore! I love watching them really think and watching them enjoy the process and the outcome. It's also interesting how when you're paying attention to the students' faces, especially eyes and mouths, you do get obvious signals about their engagement in the lesson...eyes wide, mouths in an oval, good; eyes glazed and mouths completely agape, bad.

When my MT introduced the writing workshop, the student status went to good. They were really immersed in the idea of being lil' authors -- kinders kindling their eager minds. They learned about the who, what and where of story telling and practiced sharing their story, drawing their story and acting out their story. The more interested they became, the harder they worked on actually writing and trying to spell the words in their stories. Obviously, when the curriculum engages them, they want to scaffold the learning.
